Venus and Jupiter Conjunction Sept 1, 2005

The last time Jupiter and Venus were at conjunction was on Oct 29, 2004. Back then they were a mere 33 arc-minutes apart, or about 0.42 degrees. This year Jupiter will shine about 1.2 degrees to the upper right of Venus. You need to catch this right after sunset since they'll be only 10 degrees high 40 minutes at that time. The conjunction makes for a a good naked eye view, but with binoculars you will also be able to Spica which will be 6 degrees from the pair of planets.
On the night of September 6, 2005, the pair will be joined by a young moon. Although Venus has "slid" past Jupiter since September 1st, the addition of another planetary body makes for an additional observing treat.
